Les Tostevin retired from the Rainbow Alliance committee at the AGM on Friday 27 October. He was a founding father of HRRA which formally started in 2003. Until his retirement from work in 2008, Les was active behind the scenes with his late partner Ambrose. Les then became a member of the committee and has been Chair or Co-Chair for many years. Apart from working on the constitution and helping HRRA achieve its charitable status, Les has been instrumental in HRRA getting funding for very successful events such as an Equalities Day with Peter Tatchell and an event called ‘Out and Proud – from Closet to Community’. Over 300 people attended the latter event at Azur. In addition he has been on many committees over the years.
Our local LGBT community has a great deal to thank Les for – he has worked tirelessly for us all. Although things are so much better than they were in 2003, there is still a long way to go and Les will continue to support the Rainbow Alliance, albeit in a more low key role, in the future.
