Book Groups

HRRA has two book groups – details of which are below:

HRRA Lesbian Book Club

Our Lesbian Book Club has now been up and running for 5 years. We have a thriving group and enjoy reading books chosen by members from the whole range of lesbian literature – novels, thrillers, biography, history etc. We borrow sets of books from Hastings library free of charge and we meet once a month to discuss a book we have read, and swop recommendations for reading. We also have an HRRA book shelf full of lesbian books available to borrow. We meet in a member’s home and have a drink, nibbles and chat, as well as an (informal) discussion about our book of the month. We have had some good discussions and always find something in the books to make us laugh, think about something new or reflect on our own experiences. We aim to be respectful of each other’s views and this does not prevent a lively debate. One of our aims is to get more lesbian books and books by lesbian authors into the local libraries. East Sussex librarians have been very helpful in supporting our efforts, and have bought in a lot of new lesbian stock.

We currently meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month. New members are welcome. If you are interested in joining our group please contact Barbara. Email

Rainbow Book Group

They can't put the book down!
They can’t put the book down!

The Rainbow Book Group meets every six weeks to discuss a book proposed by its members.

The group has a focus on books by gay authors or with a gay men’s theme; it complements the lesbian book group, and is open to all members of HRRA.

  1. Hi – just wondered if the group is still meeting? My partner and I are moving into the area shortly and would love to get involved. Thanks, Michael
